Extra Credit

Filed under: Uncategorized — bbrandow at 5:17 pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2007

Sometimes an extra credit opportunity will come home in the Friday Folder.  They are a variety of activities that are meant to extend their learning opportunities.  It is always a topic that we have already covered in class that is offered as a supplement to what was taught or it will be a way for students to gain information about a topic that will be introduced.  This allows students to gain some prior knowledge prior to the lesson.

Reading Logs

Reading Logs make a difference.  Reading  5 times a week outside of school helps all readers improve.  They are designed to fit each individualized student reading level.  Finding literature at each individual student’s level  is the key to success.  Reading at their independent level will allow them to use the active reading strategies to become more insightful readers as well as improving their personal fluency level.  It is designed so that the only parent responsibility is to sign each reading activity varifying that your child read for 30 minutes or more.  If 30 minutes is too long provide two 15 minute reading sessions per reading activity.    Reading logs come home in planners on Mondays and at that time the students will turn in the previous week’s reading log.  At that time, a new one will be stapled into the planner to use for the following week.  Thank you for helping to manage this homework responsibility.
