Hey, group! Right now I am reading A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. It’s very good so far and I’m really enjoying it.
The novel is about a young boy from Sierra Leone named Ishmael. Because of the war in his country, Ishmael loses all of his family members and has a violent life. He and his friends are found by soldiers and become part of their army. They are given drugs and taught how to kill people.
I think that it’s horrible how Ishmael is brainwashed. As he says on page 122, “Killing had become as easy as drinking water.” I found this to be extremely sad. Most of all, I can’t believe that this really happened and is going on in our world today.
