Group 1 - Secret Life of Bees - Posting Spot

I really thought the book was good but I do not think that it was my favorite seminar book. Well, we have started our project and I feel like we are on tract and that we will be well prepared for our presentation. We have most of the script done and are starting to work on getting props and get our set together. One thing that I think has been tough in our group has been our lack of communication. And making sure that everyone can be present at the meetings we have. But we still have some time let to work out these kinds of problems in our group.
But overall I think our group works great together and I think we all get along very well. We have found that having three people to have a project of the size is very hard to do. Maybe in the future projects might look better if we had more people in each group. I also think that our project idea is very unique and well set us apart from the rest of the groups. Hopefully when we present our audiences will think that our project is very different and they can see all time and effort we have put into this project. I also hope that they will be able to get a better understanding of the book and hope to read it in the future.
Our seminar book was good. As we were reading it i found it very simple and easy to read. I exspecially liked how the book had to do with so much female power. We will definately have to put that into our presentation because that plays a big part of the book.
Our book also had alot of historical references since it took place during the time period of the civil rights. That will be easy for us to use in our presentation as well. In the beginning of the book there was a huge surprise. I would not have guessed that Lily killed her mom. There were many surprises during this book. Overall I really liked The Secret Life of Bees.
I agree with Hannah that our presentation will be very unique and set us apart from other groups. I hope that everyone will like it and see how it plays in with our book. We had poor communication sometimes. Not everyone could meet at once which made it difficult to get everything accomplished and spread the work out evenly. I also think that for future seminar groups we have the groups bigger so people do not have to act out more than one character and make it difficult to write the script. The groups need to have more than three people.
While reading The Secret Life of Bees I found that Lily is harsh towards her mother since T.Ray always told her that her mother did not love her and was leaving her. Lily never understood why her mother was packing her bags when Lily accidently killed her. Lily was much too young to realize what she was doing. I found it strange that when Lily was staying with the honey sisters her mother had stayed there also. That is how Lily really finds out information about her mother by talking to August about her. In the end Lily finds out that her mother really did love her and when she was packing her bags she was going to take Lily with her. Also T.Ray comes to the honey sisters house to take Lily back home but she stands up to him and ends up staying with the sisters. I thought that was a way for her to stand up for herself and for women. Overall I enjoyed reading this book.
Our group presents tomorrow and I think that we will do great. We need to read through our script tonight and make sure we have every thing we need for props.
Hannah, I was unable to get the blue skirt so i was wondering if I could just wear the black dress and wear a purse also for the old lady. I would take that off for the flight attendent unless you have a hat i could wear. I went and got the balloons today after school and will assemble them but I am not exactly sure how to but I will talk to you about that. Our group has worked well together and I think our performence will be great. I enjoyed working with the two of you.
Hopefully I can still put in another blog entry. I think I remember you saying that we could reflect on how we thought our project and group went since the blog was not up until after we were done reading the book. Yeah so I guess that I am just going to reflect on how our presentation went. I thought we did a good job. I thought we did the best that we could do. I know it was probably confusing because we had to switch characters so much but I think even though we had that problem we had a good solution to it. I had lots of fun working with both Kaitlyn and Dexter.
I think that we all worked well together and I only hear good responses from our classmates. So that is encouraging for all of us to hear. I think that people really understood what our book was all about. One person told me after our presentation that they wanted to read the book for themselves. I am glad to hear that we help that person have an interest in the book. The airplane idea was very unique and I like to know that it wasn’t the same old projects ideas. I think that our group was creative and we all tried to share ideas when we were all working together.
