English 11A: 2nd Book Project Posting Spot

FOR YOUR second book project, in addition to the paper and journals, you are required to post to this spot twice. You must fill the box to get full credit, and if you have numerous errors, I will not approve it. Proofread! Use only your first name and last initial. The criteria for the postings is as follows.

1.  In the first post, tell people what you think of your book. Do you like it? Would you recommend it? Is it in your top ten? Bottom five? Tell us something interesting. These are only suggestions, not a formula for an answer. Use details, examples, and explanation to support your opinion.

2.  In your second post, respond to another student’s posting. What do you think about his or her book? Would you read it? Why? Why not? You do not have to respond to someone in your class. You may respond to anyone.

Have fun!

  1. The book I am reading is called Go Ask Alice. It was super good. I already read it. It only took my three days. Usually it takes me like a year to read a book, but this book was very interesting. I would recommended this book to a lot of people, probably just girls though, maybe a few boys. It’s definitely in my top ten books. I thought I might enjoy this book, because a close friend of mine recommended it to me. The story is written in all journal entries. In the beginning of the story, it was really confusing and hard to keep up on. After about 7 entries, I realized that I liked it better that way, because that way if I needed to stop reading for a minute, I wouldn’t forget what was going on, because each journal is about 2-3 pages, so it was like little breaks. This book was super good.

  2. The book I am reading for my second independent book project is called “The Burn Journals”. The author of my book is Brent Runyon. I chose to read this book because I had read the back of the book last year and thought it sounded really interesting and scary. I really wanted to know what happened next. The back of the book is actually a part from the book when the main character is about to light a match when his bathrobe is soaked in gasoline which he had just poured all over himself. He had tried to commit suicide many times before. He is also thought of as to be a troublemaker but he is also popular. The book, so far, has talked about his experiences between him and his family, friends, nurses, and other encounters in the hospital after the suicide attempt. I am looking forward to see how he recovers.

  3. The book I am reading is The Poison Pool. I like my book a lot because it is a murder mystery. Yes, I would recommend my book to other high school students if they liked murder mysteries or scary type books. My book I would have to say is in my top 10 because it’s really good and it makes me want to keep reading it. In my book it starts off with a Man named Tom Carter who the police find murderd. They only have one suspect and that is a man named Joey Macready. The police and a woman named Kate Weston are then ready to find out who they thought was the killer wasent.

  4. For my project I read “The Redemption of Sarah Cain” by Beverly Lewis. It’s about a woman named Sarah Cain who lives a very plush life in Portland, Oregon and how her life suddenly changes with the death of her sister, Ivy. Her sister’s death is one of the things that change her life along with her new guardianship for her five Amish children in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The book was very good and interesting because you get to see how the Amish live. I chose this book because I saw the movie and liked it, but in the end I thought the book was better because the story was almost completely different and I got to understand the story better because of the detailed descritions of what was happening. I would recommend to girls who like good and simple story. I really liked this book and I will probably read it again. I think also that I am going to try some of the other books that the author wrote.

  5. For my book project, I read “Identical” by Ellen Hopkins. It is definitely one of my favorite books. If you have read any of her other books, you need to read this one. I definitely recommend this book to someone who likes suprise twists. The book alternates between the lives of a pair of twins. Kaeleigh and Raeanne. You find out that Kaeleigh had been being molested and at the very end of the book, You find out that Raeanne had died in a tragic car accident and that Kaeleigh had taken on the life of her twin sister in an identity disorder known as DID. This is a must read!

  6. For my book project, I read “Playing For Pizza” by John Grisham. It is about a kid named Rick Dockery. He is a third string quarter back for the Cleveland Browns. They throw him off the team because they put him in to play in the Super Bowl because they were winning but he threw three interceptions and they lost. Once he was on the streets he did not know where to go because all he knew was football. Then he gets a call from a team in Italy the next day, and they want him to play for him. He does because they are going to pay him more than the Browns. It is a good book so far.

  7. The book that I am reading is Slam by Nick Hornby. So far this book has been ok but not the best of the books I read. I would not recommend this book to boys but girls. The reason that I would recommend it to girls is because it talks about a girl who got pregnant well in highschool. At the beginning of the book it was ok and I was likeing it but then it took the twist of talking about how this kid got this girl pregnant in highschool. These are some reason I did not like this book.

  8. I read (past tense, I finished it in about a week) Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs. It was one of the most fantastic books I have ever read in my life. Top five, definitely. It’s about this boy (Augusten) who’s mother is pretty much mental. She starts seeing this shrink, Dr. Finch. After a while of dysfunctional family matters, Deidre (Augusten’s mom) divorces Augusten’s father and gets her own house, which eventually leads to Dr. Finch legally being Augusten’s father. Augusten starts living at the Finch house, which is completely crazy. I would recommend this book to anyone. Seriously, anyone.

  9. Responding to Erica’s post, Go Ask Alice was amazing. I actually own it, which proves it’s good, based on the fact that I don’t have an extensive book collection. I love how she makes decisions which effect her life dramatically. It’s actually really sad, but I like it. It’s truthful, and isn’t (or, doesn’t seem) censored. I liked the fact that it jumped around a lot in the beginning, too. It really does make you kind of stop and rethink what you’re reading, instead of just reading it and not really getting all of it.

  10. After reading the first blog posting of Alyssa H., I think that her book sounds very interesting. I would like to found out what happened throughout the story between the twins. I also think it sounds interesting because I am a twin myself. Reading about stuff that I can easily relate to is really fun. I might be able to see how a different pair of twin’s life is and how they cope with someone who looks exactly like them. =] “Identical”, by Ellen Hopkins, is most definitely going on my need to read list. It kind of sounds confusing, but that is only one more reason why I should read it, in order to clear up the confusion.

  11. The book I am reading is titled “Gossip Girl the Carlyles, You Just Can’t Get Enough” was a very good book. I have read all of the Gossip Girl books. They are my favorite books and series. My book is about a set of triplets that live in New York. The three teenagers are still trying to fit in because they have recently moved. The only boy, Owen falls in love with his best friend’s, girlfriend. One of the girls Avery, founds out who her real friends are because there are lot of backstabbers in the Upper East Side and the littlest of the triplets Baby, meets two boys and you will have to read the book to find out who she chooses.

  12. The book Haley S. is reading sounds very interesting. I might read it if I got the chance. I have heard from magazines, that the book Running with Scissors is really good. The book has recieved 4 out of 5 stars from the book critics. Dr. Finch sounds like a interesting character, very crazy but with a very kind heart. I feel terrrible for the main character because I would think it would be hard to grow up with a crazy mom. I would like to know why the mom is as crazy as she is. Maybe something bad happened to her or something tragic happened to someone she loved.

  13. For my second book report book I read the book Marley and Me by John Grogan. I think this book is really good and I enjoyed it. It is about a new married couple who really wants to start a family, but they wanted to make sure they were responsible enough first. They end up deciding to get a puppy to prove to themselves that if they can take care of a puppy then they could also take care of a baby. This book was really funny and I would recommend it to just about anyone.

  14. The book that Hillary M. is reading sounds like it would be really good. I like books that have some sort of a mystery behind them or when they are scary. When I read books with a mystery in them it always makes it more easy to read because it makes you not want to put the book down. I think that it is really cool that they made the back of the book an actual scene from the story, it makes the reader have some sort of visual of what was really happening.

  15. I read The Pact by Jodi Picoult. This book was absolutley amazing. I was able to read this book cover to cover in one day. This book goes between the past and present. Emily and Chris could be described as the perfect couple. Until one day when both their parents get a phone call saying there was a terrible incident and they are needed at the hospital. When they arrive they are told that a gun was fired, Emily has died, and Chris is alive. Emily’s parents are told that there is going to be an investigation, because the police do not beleive Chris’s story of a suicide pact. If there was a pact why is Chris alive? Did Chris kill Emily? He loved her, they were childhood sweethearts. Will Chris be found innocent or guilty? You will have to read this amazing book to find out.

  16. The book Identical by Ellen Hopkins that Alyssa H. is reading sounds really good. I love stories that have weird twist, and are about teens. I would love to hear more about the twin girls Kaeleigh and Raeanne. This book seems like it might be a suspense and fast pace. Although it might get a little confusing switching between chracters througout the story. I will deffinately be putting this book, on my list of must read books.

  17. The book I am reading for my second independent book project is called “Someone Like You” by Sarah Dessen. I chose to read this book, because someone in my class read and presented it for their book talk, and it sounded appealing to me. I really enjoyed this book, I finished it in about a week, just because I could never put it down! I would definitely recommend this book, mainly to teenage girls because I feel like I could relate to a lot of the situations the book portrayed. This book is a love story, just like most all of the other books by Dessen. I have read other books she has written and I feel that she is a very strong author.

  18. In response to Hillary M’s post, I think her book sounds very appealing to me. It sounds like a very good story with twists that keep you on your toes while reading. I think that is a very good characteristic for a book to have, because it keeps the reader interested and wanting to keep coming back for more reading. I would definitely consider reading it some time in the future. I have also heard of other people who read this book, and they liked it very much. Hillary’s book seems like the types of books I like to read. I like a story that is in a high school setting with teenagers, who face problems like us other teenagers face everyday.

  19. I read “Crank” by Ellen Hopkins for my book project. This book appealed to me because it’s not exactly a happy story. People get hurt in it, and people are not always what they seem. It’s the type of book you can’t put down. It is about five hundred pages long and it only took me about a week to read it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes exciting books about teenagers, and people in general walking the line between good and bad.

  20. My response is for Alyssa H’s post. She read ““Identical” which is also by Ellen Hopkins. I love the author, and it sounds like another page turner. I like books with huge twists, and she says it’s got some big ones. I will more than likely be reading that book, based on what she’s said it’s exactly what I like to read.

  21. The book I am reading for me second independent book is Dragon Tears by Dean Koontz. It is a very good book but it has alot of swearing and sexual things in this book. I would rate it at the top of my list and recomend it to any teen that likes mystery and horror. Dean Koontz gives very good describtions of the charaters and how they interact with each other. I do not like that many books but these two that I have read are really good. This book is very long but it caught my eye. It is about two cops trying to find a guy that has raped a girl but they have no idea who he is just like in real life.

  22. I am going to comment about Nicole W’s book comment she left. It sounds like it would be a very good book. I would like to read it by how you have described it and asked the question on if Chris shoot Emily and I would have to read it to find out. I wish you would have gave them more of a describtion of the charactors but that is ok because it still sounds like you have read it and really understood this book. You said that this book was amazing in one word can you say besides amazing would you have to say about it?

  23. The book I am reading is Break No Bones by Kathy Riechs. I really like the book becausde of the characters especially Tempe and Ryan becasue the are really uncomfortable with eachother even though they are work partners. Tempe is my most favorite because she is very forward and tres intellegent. The book appeals to me a lot because the main character Tempe is a forensic anthropologist and that is what I would like to be; the book is very informational due to all of the technical language. I would definately recommend this book to any one.

  24. For my project I read “Blue is for Nightmares” by author Laurie faria Stolarz. The second book in this series is the one that caught my eye at Barnes and Noble. So I decided to start at the beginning. This story is really good. It kind of reminded me of Harry Potter a little bit with the Private school and the magic but the main character is the only one with magic. In the book the main character Stacey has a roommate named Drea and she is being stalked and Stacey feels like it’s her job to protect her since she is having reoccurring nightmares about Drea’s stalker. I’d recommend this book to just about anybody especially if you like magic and murder mysteries. This book is totally in my top 10!

  25. In response to Shelby R’s post, I think her book sounds good. I also like the drama/ teen romance type books they are fun to read and you can sometimes really relate to what goes on in the story. I’m sure the series is very good, since they turned it into a TV show. I bet the books are much better since usually they cut a lot of the good parts out when they make movies and TV series. I think the gossip girl books are probably a lot like the A-list books I used to read last year.

  26. The book I read was called “Keeping the Moon” by Sarah Dessen. It was an excellent book. The main focus was self respect. The main character, Colie, did not have any self respect because of the way she was treated by fellow students through out middle school. When she goes to live with her aunt over the summer she meets a few people who teach her how to love herself and to have confidence in everything she does. With the help of these new people (who become her first friends that she has ever had) she can now overcome what people think about her and just be herself.

  27. In response to Hillary’s book, I think it sounds like a very interesting book. It seems like it has a good plot with maybe and underlying message that you wouldn’t expect. It also sounds like the plot would keep you wanting to read it. You can tell when a book is good because no matter how hard you try you just can’t put it down. You feel like once you get to the next chapter you’ll be able to put it down but then something else happens that makes you keep reading.

  28. For my book project I read the book “Brisingr”. It is the 3rd book in the inheritance series. The author is Christopher Paolini. The book starts off with Eragon and Roran on a hill looking down at the Ra’zac which have with them slaves. The slaves then offer themselves and the Ra’zac kill the slaves. Eragon and Roran are so disturbed by this but they know they must pursue them. I read this book for the simple reason that I have become completely sucked into this series. This is the best book out of the three and the best book that I have read. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone who really loves fantasy, adventure, and suspense.

  29. In response to Josh B’s book, I don’t really know if I would go for the football books even though I am a football player I’m into the fantasy more. Even thought I’m not into those kinds of books I would still read it. It sounds like a good enough book with an interesting plot. The thought of reading about real life actions just does not interest me that much. I feel that if you could do it in real life why read about it just watch it on TV or something.

  30. For my second independent book project, I am reading “Second Glance”, by Jodi Picoult. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, but probably mostly to girls. In the beginning, I didn’t really enjoy it at all. It was very confusing and I had a hard time getting into it. As the book goes on, it gets very interesting. This guy named Ross is a ghost hunter. He lost his wife Aimee in a car accident, and he’s trying to connect to her from the other side. He never really finds her, but he does meet someone else. Her name is Lia. He immediately falls in love with her. She always tells Ross that her husband beats her and doesn’t love her. Soon after, they are walking around and they come to a gravestone with the name Lia Pike. He finds out that she is a ghost, and that she’s been dead for over 70 years. She came back to look for her baby that her husband killed a long time ago. There is many other things that happen, but that is pretty much the just of it.

  31. The book “The Pact” that Nicole W. is reading looks very good to me. I love reading books by Jodi Picoult. She always has the best story lines and major twists and turns that you would never see coming. I also think that she can connect with teenagers as well as adults and that’s what makes her more popular. Most of all of her books are aimed at girls, but I guess a boy could read them too. “The Pact” looks like something I would read in one day. I love love stories and the drama of a suicide/murder makes the book sound more fun to read. I hope to read all of her books one day, because they are all different and all have a different way of presenting things, even though they are all from the same author.

  32. I read the book “Running with Scissors”. This book is a memoir depicting the teenage years of Augusten Burroughs’ life. His mother is insane and his father is an alcoholic. Augusten’s mother is having sessions with Dr. Finch, a very strange psychiatrist. After various sessions with Finch Augusten’s mother drops Augusten off at the Finch’s household for a week. After this Augusten’s life changes drastically. This book is absolutely amazing and it’s definitely in my top ten favorite books of all time. I’d recommend this book to anyone, because of the range of subject matter found in the memoir. It’s very humorous and an amazing read for anyone.

  33. I think the book that Carly S. is reading sounds good. Just that it is a mystery makes it sound very exciting already and that there’s a complicated love story in it also makes it sound good. It just sounds like an interesting plot. I haven’t read anything by that author, but the book sounds interesting.

  34. The book that I read for my second book project was “The Black Ice” by Michael Connelly. It is about a detective named Harry Bosch who works in Hollywood California. He is on everyone watch because of some mistakes he has made in the past. This book was on of my favorites, it was written in a way to make you want to keep reading it until you got to the very end. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a book that could happen in real life. All of the events in this book make it seem like it was real life, like you could turn on the news at night and see this story and believe it was real. I think was a great book and I will be reading more in this series.

  35. I think the book that Josh B. read sounds very interesting and it is always fun to read books that are related to things that I like to begin with. I like books that seem like they could happen in real life and this sounds like this could really happen to a quarterback in the NFL. I would definitely like to get this book to read it one of these days. I have read a lot of other John Grisham books and all of them have been good so far, I do not see any reason why this book would be any different than the rest of his books.

  36. I am reading “Someone Like You” for my second indepent book reading. The author of my book is Sarah Dessen. Any teenage girl could relate to this book. Maybe not the getting pregnant part, but always being there for a friend in time of need for sure. It is now time for Halley to step up to the plate and be a supportive friend to Scarlet when she finds out that her boyfriend has died. The thing I like most about this book is it shows girls how they can get so caught up into their boyfriends not even realizing it and their grades start to slip, skipping class, and being late for curfew.

  37. The book that I am reading is Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clancy. Tom is one of my favorite authors, so that drew me too this book right away. I love the way that Tom writes, and it really gets me into the book. So far I have read the majority of my book and I like it a lot. It is about a lot of different people. It bounces from a drug dealer in south America, to a group of American soldiers fighting against the drug lord, to Jack Ryan and many other characters. So far the first mission has been successful against the drug lord, and it looks like the second will have the same result. Overall I think this book is very good so far.

  38. For my independent book report project I read the novel “The Pact” by Jodi Picoult. After reading the first page of this story I was hooked. I must say this has been my most favorite book, ever. This is definitely a book that teens can relate to. I would recommend this book mostly to girls, because it is a love story. Boys may also enjoy the suspense that takes place in this book. Everything about this novel is outstanding. There was never a dull moment. I sat down every night and read because I just wanted to know what was going to happen. After completing this novel I was in shock. It still surprises me what happened, but I think that’s what makes it so amazing.

  39. I think that the book Courtney S. read, “Crank,” sounds interesting. She says that it deals with issues that are realistic but are not always the happiest. I think that’s what sounds most appealing about this novel. I enjoy reading books that deal with real issues and things that really happen in life. When I read books, such as this, I feel I can relate to what is going on I feel I have a better understanding of the material discussed. I am very interested in reading this book; it could become one of my top favorite books.

  40. The book that I choose for my independent book project was Bittersweet Sixteen. The authors of this book are Carrie Karasyov and Jill Kargman. The book is about a girl named Laura and she is best friends with Whitney. A new girl comes to school and her name is Sophie. She basically takes over Laura’s spot. Now Laura is the third wheel. Whit and Sophie are going to have their sweet sixteen birthday party together because they both share the same birthday, but that does not go so well after a fight. Laura is now forced to pick a side. She either has to pick Whitney’s or Sophie’s. Who’s side does she choose?

  41. I read the book “Atonement”. The book was written by Ian McEwan. It is about a thirteen year old girl named Briony who witnesses her sister and a boy named Robbie being affectionate. She assumes he is attacking her and gets angry. Then her cousin is attacked and Briony says she saw Robbie do it. It wrecks Robbie’s bright future and splits her family apart. Briony tries to apologias later in life. I thought the book was boring in the beginning but it got a lot better after all the background information was out of the way.

  42. I thought that the book Jena P. read sounded like it would be a good book for me to read. It had all the elements I like in a book. I love romance and suspense. I also love it when I get hooked on a book right away. Sometimes it can be discouraging when it takes forever before the book starts to get interesting. Just the fact that she would want to read it every night is a compliment. I have a hard time sometimes finding a book that I want to read every night and see what is going to happen next.

  43. The book I’m reading is called The Earth, My Butt, and other BIG Round Things,by Carlyn Mackler. I would recommend this book to probably only girls, but I would recommend it. It is deffenitly in my top five, not only does this book have a funny title, but the book is just amazing. The book is about an obeast girl named Virginia Shreves, and it walks you all the conflicts and obsticles so goes through will going through high school. Not only does she have a few problems at school but she also is having a family problem, all I can say is her older brother causes some trouble in college. (sorry can’t say more than that.) If you are looking for a drama filled, girly, and kinda romantic book then you should read this book.

  44. In response to Jeremy W’s book, it sounds really good not only by what he says in his posting but I have also talked about his book with him in class. From what he tells me in class it really sounds like a book I would be intrested in, in more ways then just one. If his book really does involve some of the drama, that he told me about then I’m sure I would have know problem reading this book. Also I absolutly love reading books about teenagers and things they go through while there in high school.

  45. The book that I am reading is called Freakanomics and it is very interesting. It talks about the hidden side of life and how thing are a lot more complicated than we think. It shows that life is run by incentives and that it effects all decisions made by people. I really enjoyed reading this book and it is in my top five. I think anyone can enjoy this book because it is so interesting. It puts an interesting spin on things and makes you look at the world a little differently.

  46. I think that the book Nicole W. read called The Pact by Jodi Picoult sounds very interesting. I think I would like it a lot. I love books that you get hooked on right away. I really like the romance novels but I also like suspense because that just makes it all the better. I have heard so many good things about this book. I think I will have to go check it out and read it. I am sure that I will like this book by the way it sounds. I would really like to find out how Emily died and want to know if Chris did it.

  47. I am responding to Dylan’s book. It sounds like a good book. I haven’t read the first two books but if I had I would want to read his even more. I have herd good things about those books. If the third book is the best it must be pretty good because I have herd the first two are really good. I enjoy reading fantasy, adventure and suspenseful book so I guess I’ll have to read that book. Dylan has a good taste in books so I think he knows when a book is worth reading or not.

  48. I think that the book Danielle F is reading sounds super good. It sounds like a bunch of drama, which I don’t like so much, but I like reading about it. She told me that it is interesting and she likes it. I asked her if I could borrow it when she is finished reading. I’m curious about the ending. She ends her thing with a question, which makes me want to grab it and finish it. I would really like to read this book.

  49. I think the book that Courtney S. is reading sounds really interesting. I would love to read a book about dealing with teenagers. Everyday we have to make decisions that could not be the best of choice we’ve made. People make bad choices all the time in life and all we have to do is learn from it and move on with our lives. I think if I have another book project for English B I will most definitely looking into, “Crank” by Ellen Hopkins. I think I would really enjoy this book.

  50. I read “The Hobbit” a prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is possibly the best fantasy book I have ever read! I highly recommend this to any fan of fantasy or adventure books. Tolkien has created amazing characters in an amazing story. My favorite character is Thorin, the leader of the dwarves. He is strong, bold and is determined to finish his quest to get back what belongs to him. Tolkien uses “The Hobbit” to set the stage for what would become his most famous classics. If you are a fan of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, this is a must read.

  51. Freakanomics is now at the top of my Christmas list. This is the first I have heard about this book and from Ethan’s description, it sounds like something that is right up my alley. I tend to read mostly fantasy. I am not sure, but it sounds like this book could be non-fiction. (Actually,it sounds like something my sister would be reading for one of her Psychology classes.)Whatever it might be, it has really peaked my interest. If I am really good, maybe old St, Nick will drop off a copy for me!

  52. For my independent book project I read the book Rash. It was a very good book and I pretty much read it all in one day. I am usually the type that is quick to be distracted while I am reading but for this book I couldn’t stop. It was about all sorts of things that I am interested in like football and pizza. It felt like a book that the author wrote for guys, which is hard to find now days. It seems like every book out there is for girls. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading books placed in the future and is a teenager.

  53. I think Ethan B’s book sounds very interesting. I like books that talk about hidden meanings and things like that. His book sounds like it might be easier to understand then most. I like books that make you question things and that book seems like that is what it does.

  54. The book that I read was “The Choice” by Nicholas Sparks. It was about two neighbors that fall in love although the girl has had a boyfriend for the previous four years. I liked this book a lot. I thought that it was very interesting, and I did not want to stop reading it! I think that mostly girls would be interested in it since it is a romantic book about relationships. I was very surprised that I like it as much as I did. I would recommend this book to all teenagers that like to read love stories!

  55. I think that the book that Danielle read sounds very interesting! I think that I would like it because I could relate greatly to it. I have been in that type of a situation before, so it would be easy for me to read I think! I also think that the book she read would mostly be for teenage girls, not really for boys!! I love books that have drama in them, so I think that I would not be able to put that book down! I will have to keep it in mind for one of my next book reports!

  56. The book that I read for my second book project was one of the best books I have read in a long time. The book was One Bullet Away From Making A Marine Corps Officer by Nathaniel Fick. This book was a bout the author becoming an officer in the corps and how he had to decide wether or not to keep with training or go to college. Ends up he becomes an officer at Camp Pendelton in California.

  57. The book that I read was called “The Warrior Heir.” It was about an average high school student that decides to stop taking his medication. Soon he starts feeling stronger and more confident. He ends up being too cocky one day and accidentily uses magic on another student. By using his magic, he is discovered by people just like him. I understand this is a little confusing. However, I would highly recommend this book because it is full of action, drama, and suspense. Anyone my age would love it. Read it! It will change your life.

  58. I tihnk Ethan B’s book would be very interesting to read. It sounds like a fairly interesting book I like books that make you think about the world and put a spin on things. I like thinking of how you can look at something and get a few meanings not just one. I’ll definatley have to read it.

  59. The book that I read for my 2nd independent book project was Forrest Gump by Winston Groom. I figured that if the book was anything like the movie, I would love it. It was a little different than the movie, yet still great! I really liked it alot. It had a different ending to it, which made it turn out better in ways. Forrest Gump is the local idiot who has trouble making friends. Throughout his life, he overcomes many obstacles and achieves many great things. It truly is the story of the American Dream.

  60. In response to Dylan M’s book, I can relate to the book series he has chosen. I have read the two books before his and loved them! I have been meaning to read the third one and now I’m inspired to pick it up and read it. I hope this book is as good as the previous books in the inheritance series. Dylan, you are my hero! I didn’t think anyone else actually read that series. I love fantasy and suspense, so I will definitely read this book for my next book report.

  62. I think the book that Skye S read sounds pretty interesting. Sounds like something I would read. It almost seems as if it is something I could relate to in some weird way. Im not sure if I would like the first boring half, as Skye proclaims it to be. But it definately seems like something I would consider reading.

  63. For My project I read Tom Cancy’s Endwar. This is a really great book. Anyone who is interested in military, war, or action should really consider reading this book. The story is about the battle that starts World War III. Russia tries invades Canada to take over the large oil reserves so they will become the top supplier of oil in the world. During a training mission a pilot spots the Russians and radios headquarters just before they shoot her down. The president orders marines to resue her while special forces try to hold the Russians and kick them out of Canada. I would recommend this book to everyone.

  64. I think the book that Tony C is reading sounds very interesting. I really like the books that are written by Tom Clancy because they are usually filled with action and fighting, which are just the kinds of things I enjoy reading about. The book sounds like it has plenty of both and the storyline seems to very well put together. I really want to read this book. It sounds really good

  65. The book that I read for my book project is “All-American Girl” by Meg Cabot. I thought that the book was really good, but it is definitely more of a girl book than a guy book. This story ends up being a love story between Sam and David. I think this is one of the best book I have ever read I would say this is definitely in my top ten maybe even my number one. I think Meg Cabot’s main point for this book is just be yourself and you will be better off then trying to be someone you are not. I agree with this because I think everyone is better off being their self then trying to be someone they are not.

  66. I think the book Carly S read sounds very interesting. The whole part about the car crash and the wife dying kind of goes along with what just happened this past weekend with my cousin and her boyfriend. I have never read anything by Jodi Picoult but she seems like a really good author since Jena P and Nicole W both picked “Pact” by her. I think for one of my next book projects I am going to pick a book by her so I can really see how good her books seem to be.

  67. I think the book that Tony C is reading sounds very interesting. I have never really read a book by Tom Clancy but i might because from what i hear about them is that they are usually filled with action and fighting, which are just the kinds of things I enjoy reading about. The book sounds like it has plenty of both and the storyline seems to very well put together. i might just read this book for my next book report when i need to do one.

  68. The second book I am reading is Notorious written by Von Ziegesar. This is the second book after The It Girl. This book is about Jenny’s journey through Waverly Academy and how to become the girl everyone wants. But now, Tinsley has been added to the equation. Tinsley is the picture of perfection to Waverly. Callie and Tinsley become close again after Tinsley’s return to Waverly after last year’s drug bust. So Jenny and Brett are left in dorm room 303. Easy Broke up with Callie and started falling hard for Jenny. The ending was horrible and I cannot wait to read the next book in line.

  69. I think the book Jena is reading which is “The Pact” by Jodi Picoult sounds so good. And I love reading books about things that really can happen to people, because I think it makes it easier to relate to. And also, it makes it easier to understand because I could apply real life examples to the reading. After I am done with “The It Girl” series, this is a definite read.

  70. I think the book that Courtney S is reading sounds good. Many of my friends have read and recommended this book. Ellen Hopkins is my favorite author by far so I am trying to read all of her books. Just like many of her other books, this one sounds like it has a big twist in it so I think I am going to have to read it. It’s definitely on the list for my next book to read.

  71. The book that I am reading for my second independent book project is, “Eclipse” by Stephenie Meyer. The book is the third in the “Twilight” series. All of which are absolutely amazing. They are all on my top of the list, all sharing space number one. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone. Once you start reading you can’t put it down. The characters are the same but the plot has a new unexpected twist. I can’t really say what happens in the story because it would ruin the previous books in the series for people. I guess you will just have to trust me when I say this book is a Need to Read kind of book. You will fall in love the series.

  72. For my book project I am reading the book “Saint” by Ted Dekker. I thought it was the best book i have ever read. It is about an assassin named Johnny who works for an assassin group called the X Group. Different nations hire them to kill certain people. While out on a mission Johnny is confronted with someone from when he was a kid. He realizes what he is doing is wrong and runs away. The rest of the book is about the X Group’s lead assassin trying to kill Johnny. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes action books or adventure. People who like love stories also might like this book because there is a little story going along with it.

  73. The book “Crank” by Ellen Hopkins sounds really interesting. I love reading book about stuff that can actually happen. There is something about books that deal with teens with problems like that that interests me. I guess that it just makes me think more than other books. A lot of people tell that it is a good read. The book is kind of long, five- hundred pages, but I think I would take the time to read it. I believe that “Crank” is a part of a series, so I will have to check out those books too. Thank you very much Miss Courtney.

  74. I think that the book that Tony C is reading sounds good. I have read books by Tom Clancy before and i really like them. I agree with Tony when he said he likes Tom’s writing style. I really like the description he puts into his writing. It really helps you get into to the book. I like action books and the one Tony read sounds good. Tony said the main character’s name is Jack Ryan. I’ve noticed that in most of Tom’s books Jack is the main character.

  75. The book that I read is called The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. That is the book which you all have read when you were “in the seventh grade.” It is a story about Ponyboy who lives with his brothers and he belongs to this gang called “Greasers.” He get into troubles with his friend Johnny and then the real story begins. I like this book a lot because the story is happy and sad at the same time. I usually do not like stories where is fighting and “gangs” but this book is a lot more than those. This book is in my top ten.

  76. I think I would like to read the book that Travis L. is reading. I like to read about the war and a book that has action is always interesting and keeps you on the edge. These books can sometimes freak you out because of all the gore. I think I will really consider reading this book.

  77. I really enjoyed Happy Hour at Casa Dracula because the main character mil is a very sassy older woman. She’s always joking around with her friends and she’s constantly quoting her mother. Mil’s mother once told her that her curviness “caused otherwise outstanding individuals to be have badly.” She definitely makes me think of my friends and I and how we joke around. On the title page it says “caution: upon reading hilarity insues.” And it means it.

  78. I think Brittany w. s book sounds amazing due to the fact that it reminds me of my mom and dad, just kidding. It sounds like a great read and it seems like a book I would read and enjoy. If there is someone crazy in it or there’s some strange twist that will keep me captivated, I’ll read it.

  79. The book “The Pact” which Jena P. has read sounds really good. I have not found a book which is really good on the first page that I just want to read it all the time but I would like to find one. I also like books which have surprise ending because it makes me enjoy it more and think about it more. Even the book has a love story in it and usually I do not like them I think I would like this one because the suspense in it.

  80. For my book I read Slaughter House-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. It was a good book but not the best of books. I love the writing style and the irony in the book but there was not enough action for me to truly enjoy and there wasn’t alot of gore for it being a World War 2 book. I would recommand this book to a stronger reader because it jumps around quite alot inbetween times in his life and its confusing to follow. It still is a funny book and it wasn’t boring just wasn’t all that I was hoping for.

  81. I think I would like Dylans book because like him I like fantasy books. I have read the rest of the books in the series and i enjoyed them so i don’t know why i wouldn’t enjoy the next one. The book intrest me because they are action packed with almost no down time and alot of bloody battles.

  82. I think Jena P.’s novel “The Pact” by Jodi Picoult sounds interesting. I like books that makes me keep reading and make me unable to put the book down. “The Pact” is an interesting title as well. She also said that the ending was shocking ans she was still shocked when the novel was finished. That’s really the type of book I like. My top favorite books have that type of ending that makes you think and wonder, or just step back and say wow. So this novel just seems like something I’d really enjoy. I plan on making a trip to Barnes and Nobles soon, so I my take another look at this novel.

  83. The book I am ready for my second book project is called “Breach of Promise” by James Scott Bell. The reason I chose this book was because my sister highly recommended it to me. She thought I would really like it, and I did. I was about a husband and wife getting fight over custody for their child because they are getting divorced. The thing that is interesting is the reason they are getting divorced is because the wife slept with a famous producer. So this famous producer has enough money to pay a good lawyer to lie and make up rumors about the husband that is not true so the wife and win custody of her daughter. Some of the rumors are pretty bad. And it is interesting to see how it turns out in the end.

  84. I think the book April is readying, “Keeping the Moon” by Sarah Dessen, sounds very interesting. I have always been a big fan of Sarah Dessen’s books. The book in particular sounds good because I know people who have low confidence. Many students let other students push them around and they never stand up for themselves. I think it would be a good book to read so people can learn how to like themselves for who they are, and not for what other people think of them.

  85. For our second book project, I choose a book called “LIFE AS WE KNEW IT” by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Within the first chapter of this book I was ready to pass it up and pick out a new one, but the due date was passed, so I thought I would just stick with it. I am very glad I did. This book is very exciting. It is written in journal form. The main character, Miranda, is sixteen years old. She lives with her mom and her younger brother Jon. In this book, an asteroid hit the moon. The moon looked as though it was going to crash into the Earth. Within a few days of this happening, the gravitational pull had shifted and now everyone must fight for their own lives in survival. I am not going to mention the ending because I do not want to ruin it. This book is a definate must read and I would recommend it to just about everyone.

  86. In regard to the book ” The Pact” that Jena P. had chosen for her independent book project, I think I would like it. I really like the romance, love story books, so I think that book would be really good for me to read. I like reading books that get really excitng within the first couple pages. Having that kind of excitement makes you want to keep reading the book until it is done. I also like suspence, so having both in the same book is really good. I am thinking about buying it because it sounds so good and I am curious to see what is going to happen in the end.

  87. The book that I read for my second Independent Book Project is called “Traitor” by Gudrun Pausewang. It is about a German girl named Anna who has found a Russian soldier in her barn during World War Two. She has to move him to an old army bunker in the woods so he will not be found. She is risking her and her family’s life by taking care of him. I like this book because the author uses very clear descriptions which help me understand the story a lot better.

  88. I think that the book “Endwar” by Tom Clancy that Travis L. is reading sounds really good. I like to read books about war and I think a book about World War Three would be pretty good. I have read other books by this author that have been really good as well. He also makes good video games that are very detailed and fun to play.

  89. For my second book project I read “Generation Dead” by Daniel Waters. This book was really good. It has many factors in it that appeal to people my age. In the book, teenagers that are dying are coming back to life. Which makes the book very interesting. The main character Phoebe is not like the normal living people. She seems to act more like the ” living impaired ” people. Most people in her school find the living impaired kids disgusting and not normal. Phoebe actually ends up liking them. It is a good book. I recommend it.

  90. The book I read for my independent book project was called “Lock and Key” written by Sarah Dessen. After reading this book I have come to a conclusion that it one of the best books written by the author. I would have to recommend this book mostly to girls because it is kind of a love story, and boys probably would not find it as exciting as the girls. Overall I would definitely say that this book is in my top ten best books because I loved the story plot, and the personality of each character.

  91. I think that the book Jena P. read for her project sounds really interesting. The main reason i would like to read this novel is because it is a love story, and those are always my favorite kind! I also like the fact that it is a suspensful book, which would always keep me reading and wanting to know what was going to happen next! I am curious to know what happens at the end of the book that is so shocking.

  92. The book I read for my book project is CELL by Stephen King. I like this book very much. It started out pretty confusing but as it went on I started to understand it a lot better. It is about how cell phones dominate the modern world. It starts out with everyone who is using a cell phone starts to go crazy. As the book goes on I learned that it was a terrorist attack and they sent a “pulse” into the cell phone signal and everyone who heard it is like a zombie. The main character’s name is Clay. He didn’t have a cell phone so he isn’t affected. The main point of the book is that he is trying to get from New York back to Main where his son is. All in all I thought the book was really good and would recommend it to people who like suspense. Stephen king is pretty violent and descriptive though, so if you don’t like that kind of thing I wouldn’t read it.

  93. I think that the book Travis L. is reading looks interesting. war books are always interesting. i like to read about the tactics and new technology of the military and stuff like that. also I like suspenseful books and I think that a book about war would have a lot of suspense in it. I also like the idea of World War III, I like to think about other people’s opinions and the world and I think that this book would probably reflect the authors opinions on the world.

  94. The book “Time of the Twins” by Margret Weis is quite an interesting one. If you like Sci-Fi Fantasy books then this a book for you. The book takes place in the year 935 on a world called Krynn on the continent of Ansalon. Its about two men Caramon and Raistlin Majere. Caramon is an ex-warrior and Raistlin is a dark mage and they are twins. At the time when the story begins Caramon is a “loyal” alcoholic and a bit out of shape. Raistlin is frail and sick but he prepares to go back in time to “learn” from the most powerful mage in the history of Krynn, a mage by the name of Fistandauntlis. Upon discovering this Caramon thrown back in time to stop his brother.

  95. I think Ian’s book “The Hobbit ” by J.R.R. Tolkien is quite an interesting book but definitely not one of Tolkien’s best works of art. Well yes it did have a good plot to it and brightly and lively described characters, but in my opinion I would not read this book ever again. I read it once in fifth grade and I just did not like it. Hey! I know what I like in a good fantasy-adventure book and this one just did not deliver it. I like lively battles and danger, and these objects are portrayed in his later works but not in this one.

  96. The book I read for my book project was called The Road. The book is about a father and a son trying to survive in America after it’s burned and there isn’t much life left. The father does his best to keep the son alive, but they have many challenges. There are some people left who aren’t dead. The problem with these people is the only way for them to stay alive is by eating other people. It gets really sad but it’s kinda interesting. I would recommend it to anyone who likes reading stories about survival and outdoors, because they are outside all the time.

  97. The book I read was New Moon by Stephanie Meyer. This book was so good I loved it. It’s about this girl who is in love with a vampire, and they break up. When he leaves, after awhile she falls for a guy name Jacob who becomes a werewolf, but I’m not saying any more. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a love story, then a breakup, then and a makeup. This would definitely be in my top 5. I would encourage any one to read it but first read Twilight. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

  98. The book Vicki P. read sounds so good I’m going to read next since I just finished New Moon. Thank for letting me know that when I pick it up I won’t be able to put it down.

  99. I book i chose to read is called “The Taking” by Dean Koontz. It is about a woman named Molly Sloan and her husband Neil who are involved in a supernatural phenomenon that is happening to Earth. In this story the Earth is being transformed into a planet that the aliens can live on. Molly and Neil go on a hunt to try and save any children who needed help and ended up saving the Earth. I really enjoyed this book. It kept me interested through the entire story and i would recommend this book to anyone who likes horror stories.

  100. I am responding to Travis L.’s post. I think that Tom Clancy’s Endwar looks really cool. I bet it is a great and exciting book. I’v read “Red Rabbit” by Tom Clancy and didn’t like it because it was very long and dull but I’m sure Endwar will be good because they are making a video game out of it. I’m sure if I choose to read this book I will enjoy it.

  101. I read the book False Memory by Dean Koontz it’s a very interesting story about a physician taking his clients and using a haiku to hypnotize them and be able to get into their head and make them do whatever he wants them to do. The worse thing is he convinces his cliebts, while under the haiku, that they should kill themselves. Finally a little more than halfway through the story the two main characters Martie and Dusty find out about what the physician is doing.

  102. I liked my book a lot it was a very sad one though, it was about the whole lacy Peterson case on the news and how her husband Scott Peterson murdered her. She first met him on a trip she took with some friends when he worked a morrow bay in Aruba and told her friends husband to give him her number that she wrote on a napkin and the next day he called her and then they started hanging out. this was a very good book over all, i would recomend this to anyone who wants to findout more about the lacy peterson case.

  103. I thought the book that ashley read about “Breach of Promise” by James Scott Bell because i sounded pretty interesting because its about a man and a women fighting over the custody of their kid because they are getting a divorce. it sounds pretty good and i would like to read it sometime soon!

  104. The book Dylan m read sounds like a good book. i read the first one in that series. I enjoy the suspense and would like to read the second actually before i read the third.

  105. My second independent book is called The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. First time, I did not really like this book because I did not know what is going on in this story? But, when I read it carefully and I begin to like this book. I recommended this book because this book is very interesting. It is about the boy who grew up in Afghanistan and the sins he had committed against his friend and half-brother, Hassan. It is his journey to redemption that is the premise of this tale. This book is in my top five.

  106. I think the book Danielle F is reading which is “Bittersweet Sixteen” by Carrie Karasyov and Jill Kargman sounds very interesting. Because it is about a mean girl does bad things to good girls and I would like to know what is going to happen with that mean girl in the end of the story. I will probably read this book.

  107. I had read “The Brief History of the Dead” by Kevin Brockmeier. I liked my book a lot for the most part. Mainly until the end of the book i was really interested. It was two different stories combined. One was about a girl name Laura on an expedition in Antarctica, and the other was about the after life. It turns out that when you die you go to a city as a second chance to live almost until the people that remember you die themselves. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I usually do not like to read, but this was an exception. This book would probably fall number two on my favorite book list. It is truly confusing at first before you realize who is who, and in what life they are living.

  108. I think that “The Pact”, the book that Jenna P is reading sounds really interesting. I believe that I would also be just as hooked. I love books with suspense. I have never read a book about a love story before, but I would make an exception for this one. It does sounds like it would be an addicting book to read. I wish that she would say what happened in the end, but I guess it would be best for me to pick it up and read it for myself. I want to know where I can find that book, because I feel like getting it now to read. I need to thank Jenna P for reading this book and telling everybody about it, because now I think I am going to go out and get it for myself.

  109. I think the book Courtney S. is reading looks really good. “Crank” seems like a lot of teenagers can relate to this book. I like books that relate to people and how they can work out their problems. If we have to read a book for English B, I would really enjoy reading this book. I think its neat how authors can write stories that actually happen to them or not. I feel as if I am in the story when i read these types of stories and thats what keeps me hooked. It makes it where i never want to put down the book and just keep reading.
