6TH HOUR 2ND BOOK PROJECT – POSTING SPOT

books-2.jpgFOR YOUR second independent book project, in addition to the book project and the reading journals, you are required to post to this spot twice. You must fill the box to get full credit. If you have numerous errors, I will not approve it, and you will have to do it again. Proofread! Use only your first name and last initial. The criteria for the postings is as follows.

1.  In the first post, tell people what you think of your book. Do you like it? Would you recommend it? Is it in your top ten? Bottom five? Tell us something interesting. These are only suggestions, not a formula for an answer. Use details, examples, and explanation to support your opinion. Most of your posting should be your thoughts about the book, not just a summary of the plot.

2.  In your second post, respond to another student’s posting. What do you think about his or her book? Would you read it? Why? Why not? Address your posting directly to the person.

Have fun!

  1. The book that I read for my 2nd book project was LORD LOSS by Darren Shan. It is in this series called DEMONATA. I really enjoyed this book because it always had some weird event to keep you wanting more. It is about this kid named Grubbs Grady and how he witnessed the murder of his parents and sister. But what he saw wasn’t humans who murdered them. It was Demons and the master of all Demons, LORD LOSS, was controlling them. I really can’t wait to read the next one in the series. The suspense is killing me!

  2. I am reading Girl in Blue by Ann Rinaldi. Its about a teenage girl who from Michigan. Her father has arranged a marige with a man named Ezekiel. She runs away to Washington DC during the civil war. She disguises herself as a boy (named Neddy Cmpton) and signs up for the army. Private Compton (Sarah) works as a male nurse and then is sent to battle. I’ve the book for a few years, but have never read it. I usually don’t read history fiction, but the story sounded good. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book!

  3. The book that I am reading for my 2nd book project is called Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo. It’s about a war veteran named Joe who gets sent to a hospital, during the war, and he wakes up to find that he was missing his arms, and legs, and was blind and deaf. During the story it jumps around to different time periods in Joe’s life. Joe cannot tell the difference between when he is awake, and when he is asleep. He spends the entire book, in a hospital bed, not being able to communicate with the people around him, and is feeling some what insane as a result. This book was really good. I’m not into war stuff really, but this book really captured my attention. I did not want to put it down. I felt really bad for Joe because now he would spend the remainder of his life unable to see, hear, touch, or smell. I hope that this author has another great book like this that I can read for my next book report!

  4. Ryan, the book that you read for your book project LORD LOSS, sounds like a pretty cool book. I like reading books that are fictional and have odd things happening like what you mentioned above. It’s not like everyday you see Demons walking around killing people. Although, I am not a big fan for scary/horror stuff, I would probably still read this book because you would really have to use your imagination to understand the book completely. I think that fiction books like this are more fun to read as well because you have to decide what the demons look like and what the scenery looks like. In non-fiction you do the same thing, but you already have common sense knowledge of what stuff is supposed to look like.

  5. The book I am reading is Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler. It’s about a guy, Tristan, who has a crush on a girl named Ivy. So he pretty much follows her around until he gets the courage to ask her out. Then Tristan teaches Ivy how to swim and they start going out. One night while they are out on a date Tristan is driving and a deer jumps out in front of the car. Tristan doesn’t stop in time and hits the deer. Then he dies. :( The rest of the story revolves around Tristan trying to communicate with Ivy (he’s and angel/ghost thing now) and keep her out of danger. I would recommend this book because it actually turns into a drama/mystery book as it goes on. You start to learn that Tristan’s death wasn’t a freak accident. I think it would be a good book for guys and girls because the book switches between Tristan’s and Ivy’s viewpoints; so this gives you a boy and girl’s perspective.

  6. Melissa, the book you are reading sounds very interesting. I know that girls used to really pretend to me men in order to fight. It’s also cool that it’s about a character from Michigan. I would probably read your book. It sounds very interesting. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your book!

  7. For the second book project of this trimester I chose to read “Touch the Dark” by Karen Chance, and oh my God, it was amazing! I absolutely loved this book! This book has one of the most imaginative plots I’ve ever read, with a lot of history cleverly twisted into the story! The main character, Cassie, is just your “friendly neighborhood clairvoyant” trying to outrun the vampire crime boss who she used to call “master”. But running for your life isn’t easy, and eventually the Senate finds her. Luckily for Cassie, the Senate, unlike her old master, doesn’t want her dead. In fact, they have big plans for her; life-changing plans.

With a war going on between the major players of the magical community, and inheriting of the position of Pythia, the world’s chief seer, Cassie’s life is quickly spiraling out of control. To make matters worse, her newly acquired position as Pythia has left Cassie stuck with a power that everyone in the magical world either wants to monopolize or annihilate, making her an even bigger target than before!

This is one of the most action-packed, fast paced novels I’ve ever read! Cassandra Palmer is an uber-sarcastic character with more exciting life than she could have dreamed possible! The other characters of this novel are incredibly original! My favorite among these characters is the homicidal-and extremely arrogant-British war mage, John Pritkin. He is a bit over-the-top, and the most intriguing character of the lot! Karen Chance is an extraordinary author, and this is an excellent book!

  8. Since last book project I chose to read a Sarah Dessen, and enjoyed it very much, I decided to read another one of her books. This one was called “Dreamland” and was definitely my favorite of all the books I have read by her! Its about a teenage girl whose older sister runs away and her family is falling apart due to it. She finally meets a boy named Rogerson who she starts to really fall for. Although for her, he turns out to be one of the most abusive boys shes ever met which only makes her life that much more difficult. The moral in this book I feel really could help with situations that go on in a teenagers life. I would recommend this book to girls, unless if your a boy who likes chick flicks, but other than that it is in my top ten and I would even consider reading it again just for fun!:)

  9. Shelby, the book that you read sounds like something I would never read, but the plot sounds very interesting! I like books where bad things happen to the main character, hence the reason why I read my book, because normally in situations, the story is all happy and nothing bad ever happens. Although I am a bit A.D.D, so I do not know if I would be able to connect the two viewpoints together and get the correct theme out of the book. Other than that though I am glad that you enjoyed the book!(:

  10. Lindsey, the book you read “Dreamland” by Sarah Dessen, I have also read. It is a excellent pick I might add, we’ll have to discuss our opinions over it sometime together! The book I just read for my Book Report was also by Sarah Dessen. It’s called, Someone Like You. I would highly recommend it for you if you enjoyed reading Dreamland by this author. I’ve also read many of her other books and feel if you like one then you will definitely like all of them! It is definitely in the chick flick catagory of love and pain of the high school years!

  11. The book I read for my book project is called Someone Like You, as I mentioned in my post above. Although I feel I should explain exactly what this book is about, in case someone else decides to read it. The two main characters are Scarlet and Haily. Scarlet is the pretty popular girl at school and Haily is known as “Scarlet’s best friend”. Although soon Scarlet becomes pregnant and Haily must take her role and become stronger for her. Together they endure a tough school year with drama, romance, and a new baby on the way!

  12. The book that I read for my second independent book project was A Bend In The Road by Nicholas Sparks. It’s about a man named Miles Ryan. He lost his wife two years ago in a car accident. He tries to find who had killed her for two years and has yet to descover who this might be. He meets a beautiful young woman named Sarah and they fall in love, but when he suddenly finds out who the killer is, his love for Sarah has vanished. I would like to start off by saying that I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those of you who are interested in fiction and mystery. This book is definitely in my top 10. I hope I can find another great book from Nicholas Sparks in the future!

  13. Lindsey, the book you have read sounds really interesting, almost like the book I read for my last book project. I believe I have read one of Sarah Dessen’s books before and have enjoyed it, but I do not think I have read the one you did for this book project. It sounds really interesting, and somthing I may just have to pick up and read. I am really glad you enjoyed your book. I would really like to know more about it.

  14. For my second book project I read the book Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs. The book is about a young boy who is left to live at the house of a crazy shrink because his mother is too unstable to care for him. He ends up living at this house with the shrink and his family for years. And he lives a very messed up life. He hooks up with a 35 year old mad, who is also the doctors adopted son. Yeah, I know, freaky. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading a lot and can handle graphic scenes of sexual intercourse.

  15. Jacob, that book you read sounds really cool. If you own it, you should let me borrow it. It sounds like a book I could really get into. The Joe character has a really crappy life. I hope he wasn’t too young when he got all of his senses ripped away. Does it have a happy ending? I would guess not. Unless you consider dying a happy ending. I could not imagine how horrible life would be if I couldn’t walk, talk, see, or hear. I would, don’t know how but, try to kill myself. Poor Joe. Well I think your book might have been a little more interesting than mine was.

  16. The book I am reading for my second tri-mester book project is The Catcher and the Rye by J.D. Salinger. This book is a good book for the most part I am kind of liking it. The on thing I am not liking about it is Holden the main character complains a lot about his life and it’s getting really old. I have heard the whole thing now and I would have to say that Holden doesn’t have a good life because he didn’t make it a good life by complaining and worrying about everything other people did and what he should be doing.

  17. Jacob M. your book sounds like it has a very interesting setting and plot to it. You have told me a lot about your book out side of school and I really want to read it and see why he is in the hospital and what happens to him through out the book. It’s interesting that he can’t have any of his five senses for the remainder of his life. He also has no arms and legs to do anything with. I think that just messed up on hoe he has pretty much nothing but his body. Sounds like a good book.

  18. Ryan, I think your book sounds like a darker version of the stuff I like to read. I think I would probably enjoy reading your book. I find demonology to be as fascinating as magical theory, and LORD LOSS sounds like it has a good storyline to accompany the philosophy aspect of the book. I normally read fantasy and paranormal type stories because they are more interesting to me than books based on everyday occurrences. For my next book report, if I had to choose one of the books that my classmates had read this time around, LORD LOSS would probably be the one I chose.

  19. The book that I read for our 2nd Book Report was “Blood Ties Book Four: all SOULS NIGHT” by Jennifer Armintrout. This is the fourth book in the series “Blood Ties” and it is a science-fiction horror book that is a great read for anyone who enjoys a little bit of sarcasm with their gore. Overall the book was generally appealing to audiences of any age and can really push the reader to turn the pages. I would say the book was reaching more toward a feminine reader unlike most of the other books in the series because it gets entangled in a romantic end of the world plot. Its a great book and it ended its series quite nicely.

  20. Jacob M. The book that you read really grabbed my attention when I was reading through the posts. It seems like Joe’s life had an unlucky downward spiral effect ever since he woke up in the hospital. I’m not sure anyone would know what to do if they woke up blind and deaf with no legs or arms. Helen Keller might have a few good idea’s but thats beside the point. Just from reading your post it makes me want to read the book. I also wonder why the name of the book is Johnny got a gun but the main characters name is Joe. The only thing I could think of is maybe Johnny was the name of the man that shot him.

  21. I read Cell from Stephen King. I really liked it. The book is based on a post apocolyptic world where cell phones are the harbingers of evil. I would definitely recommend this book to all audiences. It would be about a 2-3 on my top ten.

  22. Dan, your book sounds very interesting and I would like to start reading the series.
