Kindergarten Goals
Language Arts Goals:
- “Play” with words orally. Ex. take off the first sound (cat-c), stretch a word (cat–> /c/ /a/ /t/).
- Rhyme.
- Identify letter names of capital and lowercase letters in random order.
- Identify letter sounds.
- Apply knowledge of letters when reading and writing.
- Brainstorm individual ideas and write on a chosen topic using phonetic spelling and spacing between words.
- Write for readers (an audience).
- Build vocabulary.
- Speak clearly and respond in classroom discussions and presentations.
- Show appropriate listening skills during conversations and presentations.
- Become familiar with different types of text including stories, nursery rhymes, poems, songs, concept books, and informational books.
- Connect their life to stories.
- Compare books.
- Become enthusiastic about reading & writing!
Math Goals:
- Count to 100.
- Count objects (1-1) to 30.
- Give a specific set of objects to 30.
- Compare numbers 0-30.
- Skip count to 30 by: 2’s, 5’s, 10’s.
- Tell time to the hour. Identify tools that tell time.
- Compare lengths and weights.
- Create, extend, and describe patterns using shapes.
- ID familiar 2-D shapes, and 3-D shapes including sphere, cube, cylinder, cone, prism.
- Understand place value. Count by 10’s to 100.
- Understand that a number is the same no matter how it is split. 0+5=5, 1+4=5, 2+3=5, etc. using objects.
- Add and subtract numbers, recording simple number sentences like 5-1=4.
