High School Girls Football…Powder Puff for a full Season!
May 28, 2008: Powder Puff for more than just one night?? (I couldn’t handle officiating more than one time a year!) Nikki Johnson, of Silverado High School in Las Vegas, is pushing to make girls Flag Football a national high school sport with hope that colleges would adapt the sport and give out scholarships to compete at the Division I level. Click HERE for the article from the Las Vegas Review Journal. (I coached football and track for 5 years at Silverado High School while in Las Vegas.) Leave a comment and let me know how you feel about girls Flag Football becoming a national high school sport. Let me know if you would play and what position you would want to play. It may not happen tomorrow, but it sounds like something possible in the future of High School Athletics.

I totally disagree with tran. . .i would love to see them pass it so girls can shows guys that we can play football just as well as they can. I would so be the first girl to show a guy up on the football field. . . . .

I was only kidding. If girls were to play football though, they’d better be ready to accept all the challenges and hardships football dishes out. Boys aren’t going to take it easy and neither should girls.

I agree with tran a little on that one . . .but i think girls would work harder just to show that we can do anything that we put are mind to, and to show that football isn’t just for boys!
If we didnt know what we were getting into, do you think we would go out for the team. . . .i think girls know more about football then what you acutally think we do.
Hey Tran. . . . .I am calling first hit on you this year weather i play football or not!

Well then I’m all for girls playing football, flag or physical. Good luck to any of them who decide to do so!
And everyone wants to hit me.. what the heck.

Hardly. I’ve never had any negative thoughts towards any minority. But if girls really think they can surpass boys, it’s time to prove it. If you look at the track records in the hallways, compare the boy’s times to the girl’s time. Who has all the faster times/heights/distances? But on a serious note, I’ll see on the field next year hopefully.

I see how it is you have to switch subjects just to win . . .why dont you try to stay on the subject of football instead of switching to track when that has nothing to do with what we are talking about.
comment | May 30, 2008 at 08:51 | individual comment-link
I just mentioned track to make a point. According to the records, the guys are faster, stronger, and jump farther. If girls really think they can do a better job, it’s going to be ridiculously tough for them to prove so.
comment | May 30, 2008 at 08:52 | individual comment-link
NO. . . . . .you brought up track because you knew i was winning with the topic of football.
but just give up i won!

Listen, just take the pieces to put them together. Some of those records are held by football players. Mike Hilliard has the 200m record, a group of 4 football players has the 400m and 800m relay record. Their record time is way faster than the girl’s record time. That just means that they were faster.
All I’m saying is that girls are going to have a really hard time trying to play football with the guys.

Say what you want but in the long run you know i WON!!!
P.S. track as nothing to do with football weather those people play football or not!

You are all missing the point. This is for a GIRLS flag football team - they do not play against the guys- guys will have the tackle football and girls will have the flag football. What this is about is having the same opportunity to play a sport that a guy does….there are girls that love football just as much as the guys do. I think this is a great opportunity to open up a sport that a lot of girls want to play but never had the opportunity or venue in which to do it. Way to go Silverado’s Nikki Johnson!

thanks for all the support guys, even tran. this is nikki johnson and yeah i’m trying to go all the way with this football thing, even college level. Flag football is a really fun game, i’ve been doing it for years, although i’d love to play tackle, for now i’m settling with pushing the flag football, tackle comes next :]
