Safety Week

General No Comments »

Students participated in a fire drill, tornado drill, and lockdown drill, and evacuation through the week. We talked about how the most important thing to do in an emergency is to turn off your voice and look at & follow directions of the grown up who is with you-they will know what to do.

We also went to a bus safety assembly to learn about the “bus safety zone” or how far you need to stand away from a bus so that the driver can see you. A speaker from the Child Abuse Council also visited our classroom to speak to us about safe and unsafe touches. Our guest speaker taught us that if something feels wrong we “Say no, run away, and tell a grown-up.”

“Poly” Folder

K News No Comments »

I’ve had lots of questions about the “poly plastic folder” on your supply list, and I don’t blame you–it was tough to find at Meijer.  There are a few left in the school supply section between toys and pharamacy/beauty area in the temporary school supply area.  They are called “3 Prong Portfolio with 2 pockets” and the brand I found was By Subject By Color.  They are on sale for $0.69.

The most durable poly folders I’ve found though, are at Wal-Mart.  They are solid colors and have a firm plasticy feel with 2 half pockets on the inside and fasteners down the middle. I don’t remember the exact brand or price, but I think it was just under $1.

If you can’t find the poly folders don’t stress.  We will just use a regular folder.  Jamie & I were just trying to help daily school-home folders last through the year so parents didn’t have to replace a folder that is falling apart halfway through the year, but who knew school supplies would fly off shelves so quickly!
