PARTY TIME

April 26th, 2012 by ksix

To end another fabulous year of SpellMasters, we held our annual end of season party. Wins and losses behind us, we let our hair down to be a little silly, eat pizza, and play fun games. We hope to see all of our spellers back for next year. Remember, the rules will change for next year making for fewer slots available so make sure you look for the information in the fall.

Thanks to all or our participants, the staff volunteers who were willing to donate time and energy for our bees and the administration who helped us with trophies and other required items. Also a special thank you to Conner who gave so much of his time mentoring and assisting the program this year. Closing out for 2011-2012 and looking forward to 2012-2013.

Meeting, Bee and Shirts

January 3rd, 2011 by ksix

Our next meeting is Monday the 10th. It’s important to be there since our next meeting following the 10th is our local bee.

The local is January 24th. This is a qualifier for regionals for 5th and up. Fourth will have their own bee separate from the qualifier where certificates and ribbons will be awarded. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your new skills.

Shirts are being made as this post is being written. Those who’ve earned them are in the making and many will earn them at the next meeting. You even get to choose your own color this year. See  you Monday.

…And the winner is….

November 16th, 2010 by ksix

For middle school; first place- Keideesha Gordon, second place- Caitlin Sauers, third place- Sydney Cradelbaugh.  For newcomers; first place Mackenzie Fairfield, second place- Camryn Zeller, third place- Taylor Bradley.

This was an exciting bee at Barnes and Noble. We actually ran out of words in the three languages that had been listed as regular words or we had gone over of the challenge words. By the end of the bee, Mrs. Six had to go to languages we hadn’t even gone over yet. Even then we had a hard time getting it down to 3 winners. Look out everyone, this year’s SpellMasters are ready to spell you down!

See you all Monday at 4:00. Next language will be ready for you. Hope you studied! Don’t forget your study slips.

Our First Bee!

November 12th, 2010 by ksix

This Saturday we will be having our first “official bee” with our SpellMasters students. There will be quite a few elementary competing in a bee and a separate bee will be held for the middle school students. All words will be from the languages we’ve studied so far (Old English, New World, and French). If your child is competing, please have them there about 10 minutes before their scheduled time slot. We’re very excited to show off our skills so can’t wait to see you there.

New SpellMasters of 2010-11

October 21st, 2010 by ksix

Welcome all of you new spellers and welcome back to our returnees. We’re so glad to be starting a new year of fun competition and making new friends. You’re part of an elite group since no other school in our county offers this program. We have lots of competitions planned, activities to do and time to spell, spell, spell.

Your first language was New World. Did you know New World means they came from Native Americans? Who would have thought luau was from Native Americans? It’s true, the Polynesians. We’ll see you Monday the 25th. There are currently 80 students signed up! We can’t wait to see you all.

District Success

March 28th, 2010 by ksix

A relaxing moment.

A relaxing moment.

Keideesha did a spectacular job at Districts. She was surrounded by an entourage of supporters from the SpellMasters who cheered both quietly and loudly in claps when appropriate. Of 22 students narrowed from a field of 30,000 students, she managed to stay in the competition until there were a mere 5 contestants. In fact, this field of contestants was so skilled, they actually ran out of Spell It words and moved to dictionary words. Keideesha received the last Spell It level word.

She did amazingly well and we’re very proud of her hard work. Congratualtions Keideesha. Of course, we have other competitors in the wings vying for next year’s Districts spot too. Keideesha has another year to compete and she will be fighting hard against other 7th graders and even our up and coming 5th and 6th graders in our group. Our SpellMasters are prepared and hard working. We expect to give Nationals one of Fruitport’s finest next year.
