The Football Team is hosting our second annual mattress sale in the new gym at the high school next Saturday (May 21st), from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm. If you’re in the market for a new mattress, come check out some great deals. Great sales staff; very friendly and no pressure to buy.
There is going to be a Charter Bus to Ferris State for Fruitport’s game against Ogemaw Heights on October 22nd. $20 per person and leaving the high school at 4:30. Need to have 40 people to make it a go. Please get payment to Jeanie Medendorp. Call 773-4723 for questions. If we dont get 40 you will get your money back. Payment is due to Jeanie by Wednesday, October 20th.
The Lakes-8 Conference football teams (Grant, Newaygo, Fruitport, Fremont, Spring Lake, Orchard View, Tri-County, and Ludington) are joining together to play a cancer awareness game on Friday, October 1st. Fruitport will host Fremont, Tri-County will host Newaygo, Spring Lake will host Orchard View, and Ludington will host Grant. Home teams will wear purple jerseys with white numbers and visiting teams will wear white jerseys with purple numbers. Jerseys and t-shirts are on sale with all profits going to the fight against cancer. Half of the money that each school raises will go to the American Cancer Society. The other half of the money raised will stay locally and each school can decide how this money will be distributed. Jerseys forms must be in by Wednesday, September 22nd and t-shirt orders must be turned in by Friday, September 24th.

Physicals and Code of Conduct are due before Monday, August 9th. Players will not be allowed to practice without them on file.
Note: Dr. Pierce will be providing walk-in athletic physicals on Friday, July 30th from 12:30 to 3:00 PM at his office (Third Avenue Family Clinic). Cost is $18.

The football team is looking to raise money for new uniforms by selling mattresses. These brand new, brand name mattresses have factory warranties. The sale will be held at the high school gym, on Sunday, June 27th from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm. Mattress prices will be somewhere between 40% to 60% below retail.

Road Race Crew
The football team helped out with Fruitport’s Old Fashion Days. Saturday Morning, the players helped run the 5 /10 K road race acting as road marshalls and timers. At Pamona Park, several players helped run the kiddie games. Players involved were: Derek Barrett, PJ Dupont, Joe Remwolt, Jordan Folkertsma, Logan Six, Aaron Covert, Jacob Grow, Kaleb Gilbert, Kyle Witte, Cody Merkins, Roy Scarbrough, Lance Gilbert, and Garrett Jones. Special thanks to Coaches Larry Rueger and Chris Gilbert for their help along with Coach Gilbert’s son, Jordan.

Wheelchair Ramp Project #3
The Fruitport football team completed it’s 3rd wheelchair project in the last two months. This ramp was built for Ms. Edith Branyon of East Muskegon. The ramp was 47 feet long with 35 feet of ramping. Players taking part in this project were Zach Fortenbacher, Cody Schultz, Zach Goldman, Jordan Folkertsma, Jacob Grow, Cody Snyder, AJ Schucker, Josh Hulka, Kaleb Gilbert, Ryan Nickisch, and Tyler Fehler.

Wheelchair Ramp for Ms. Sally Larr of Fruitport
The 2010 football team built it’s second wheelchair ramp of the year for Ms. Sally Larr of Fruiport. The ramp is one of the longest that the Fruitport football program has undertaken in the last 14 years. The ramp has a total length of 74 feet, with 46 feet of ramping. Team members taking part were; Lance Gilbert, Cody Merkins, Steve Devries, Joe Remwolt, Zack Werschem, and Ryan Plumbhoff. Special thanks to Chris Gilbert, Gil Hegadus, and Jim Schippers for their help with this project. Chris Gilbert is our middle school head football coach, Gil Hegadus is a member of the Fruitport Congregational United Church of Christ, and Jim Schippers is a member of the Fruitport Lions Club. Without their help this project would have never been completed in one day.

Dr. Pierce will be doing physicals at the high school on Wednesday, May 19th at 8:30 am. Cost is $17. This physical will be good for the entire 2010-11 school year. Pick up a physical card in the athletic office or download and print the attached form.
